Learning to be Assertive: Advanced Skills
This program shows teenagers how to enhance their self-esteem by working to improve their
acceptance of responsibility, their competency to handle tasks, and their ability to
balance commitments. A psychiatrist who specializes in working with adolescents discusses
specific ways teens can learn to cope with everyday conflicts. A brief, non-threatening
quiz offers young people the opportunity to evaluate their own mental wellness. The
program provides forthright media support to Health, Guidance and Life Skills units on
values and ethics, self esteem, resisting peer pressure, stress management, goal-setting
and drop-out prevention, and conflict resolution.
