Many Pediatricians Not Diagnosing Obesity in Children: Study
In a new study researchers discovered that pediatricians are not adequately counseling
parents on the risk and nature of obesity. Likewise many pediatricians are not treating
it. |

With obesity becoming an increasingly common problem in American children
parents
need to make sure that their pediatrician addresses it.
Of the 2,515 children in the study conducted at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh 244
were diagnosed as obese by researchers. However, only half had been diagnosed as
such by their care provider.
"This study highlights the need for increased awareness and identification of obesity
in the primary care setting, especially among younger children and those with mild
obesity," concluded the authors.
