Kids Who Play Sports in Childhood Will Probably Enjoy Sports as an Adult

Particpation in sports in childhood and adolescence has shown to be an predicator of whether people will play sports as adults. Researchers surveyed three age groups of children 12, 17, and 25. After anylyzing the responses of the 600 participants in the study researchers concluded participation in athlectic activity by children and adolescents was usually followed by involvement in sports as an adult.

The data was from the Michigan Study of Adolescent Life Transitions. The project was undertaken by
Pennsylvania State University, University of Arizona, and University of Michigan.

"Childhood and adolescent sports participation was found to be a significant predictor of young adults'
participation in sports and physical fitness activities," wrote Daniel F. Perkins and collaborators at Pennsylvania
State University, University of Arizona, and University of Michigan.

The findings were published in the Jornal of Youth and Society 2004;35(4):495-520).
